One of the most exciting things about college is the transition to life on your own and gaining a sense of independence. ASU wants to set your student up for success from the very start.
First-year students are encouraged to live on the campus where their major is housed in a residential college community. Our living and learning communities are organized by major, so your student's future roommate and neighbors will also be their classmates. Your student can select their room and roommate in the ASU Housing Portal. Your student will have access to tutoring, advising, events, staff and other academic resources all right there in the comfort of their new home.
First year students are encouraged to live on campus, though we will review students’ requests to live off campus if you have extenuating circumstances that do not allow you to stay with us. Requests must be submitted either in writing or over the phone with a University Housing staff member, and someone will follow up with you for more information, as needed. Reviews of living off campus for the first year are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and are not guaranteed to be approved.
If your student is not planning to live on campus, secure off campus housing.
The priority deadline to apply for housing is May 15. We encourage all students to complete their housing application as soon as possible as spaces fill quickly. Those students that do not meet the deadline will likely need to seek alternative housing arrangements for the 24-25 academic year.
- Submit your Housing contract by May 15
- Select your room and roommate(s) in Housing Portal until May 1
- If planning to live submit your Housing exception
- Secure off-campus housing, if not living on campus
