We’re getting ready for one of the marquee events of the year at ASU, the annual celebration of Sun Devil spirit, pride and tradition known as Family Weekend.
Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 26, the event promises three days of family-friendly activities on an exciting football weekend held across the ASU campus.
During Family Weekend, you and your entire family get to explore your Sun Devil’s home campus and connect with their academic college through a variety of special events. Then everyone comes together on game day for the festive ASU Family Block Party before having an opportunity to attend the home football game at a steep discount. The complete schedule offers a host of other fun events throughout the weekend.
But there’s much more to Family Weekend. The timing, roughly two months after Fall Welcome, is perfect to reconnect with your Sun Devil and show support for their college experience.
MaryMichelle Lotano, an ASU parent from California, explains that Family Weekend offers a chance to view your student’s growth firsthand.
“Family Weekend is your chance to witness the life your student is building for themselves,” she said. “Each year it is different. When you arrive to spend time with your freshman the adventure is new to the whole family. Even in the short period of time that elapsed from moving them in, you will see and feel a difference in your student's level of independence and maturity.”
While MaryMichelle describes their first year at Family Weekend as a “once in a lifetime experience that should not be missed,” she points out it’s exciting to come back each year.
“As the years move forward, Family Weekend is no less thrilling. Even as a sophomore, junior or senior, your student will surprise and amaze you with their changing friends and growing attachment to their new home,” she said.
“As the parent of a current senior, arriving every year has been anticipated with excitement. Being a part of this event has helped me create my own place inside of the ASU family.”
Elisa Donato, another ASU parent from California, said her entire family descended on Phoenix “and went all-in” for Family Weekend 2024. They made new connections at ASU and enjoyed the experience, and can’t wait to attend again this year.
“At the Edson nursing school event, we spoke at length with the dean and a volunteer who ended up being my daughter's go-to TA,” she said. “We had dinner with a special interest group and met so many friendly, brilliant people who had been-there, done-that. I attended a brunch for Kappa Alpha Theta moms. We all went to a sorority brunch. At the Barrett breakfast, we learned more about the honors program. The Block Party was fun and HUGE, with tons of booths and activities and delicious food!”
You can preview all the events on the Family Weekend Schedule of Events, which includes everything from academic college events and campus-specific activities to the signature Block Party, Spirit Hike up “A” Mountain, Gold Rush 5K Race and Family Pickleball Tournaments. Then head to the Family Weekend home page and register to attend, if you haven’t already. The deadline to register is Sunday, Oct. 5 at 11:59 p.m.
After you register, you can use your special promo code to purchase discounted ASU vs. Houston football tickets if you want to attend the game on Saturday, Oct. 25. You’ll also get a discount for the ASU Gammage production of Still/Here.
