When our daughter, who spent her entire life in the soggy Pacific Northwest, told us that she would be attending Arizona State University, my husband and I were not surprised.
But sunshine wasn’t her only reason for choosing ASU. She read the article declaring Barrett the “gold standard” of honors colleges. She was excited about the wide variety of major possibilities, including her major, organizational leadership and project management. And, she was excited to live and learn with kids who grew up outside of her Seattle bubble.
On move-in day, as our feet sunk into the soft pavement melted by the 110-degree weather, we had a moment of doubt. But we’ve loved watching her experience ASU, learn how to adult and advocate for herself while far from home.
We’re glad that she still texts with questions and calls home (mostly to FaceTime with the dog), and for all the new friends we’ve made in the ASU Family community. We are thrilled to support an institution that defines itself by inclusion and success for all.
And escaping the rain and visiting Tempe in February is pretty delightful!
