Barrett Summer Scholars (BSS) is a rigorous summer enrichment program designed for academically motivated & talented students to experience university life at ASU. Hosted by Access ASU, this immersive experience helps students develop critical thinking skills, explore college and career pathways, and connect with peers who share a passion for learning.
Who Can Apply?
BSS is open to students entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2025. 9th and 10th graders must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0, while 11th and 12th graders need a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.25. The application deadline has been extended to May 9 only for students entering 11th and 12th grades.
Program Dates & Locations
BSS takes place across multiple ASU campuses, with each grade level attending a unique session:
- 9th Grade: June 1-4 | Tempe Campus
- 10th Grade: June 8-11 | Downtown Phoenix Campus
- 11th Grade: June 15-18 | West Campus
- 12th Grade: June 22-25 | Polytechnic Campus

Explore Your Passion Through TRACKs
This year, BSS participants will join a T.R.A.C.K., an elective pathway designed to explore college and career options. After acceptance, students will receive T.R.A.C.K. information and rank their preferences (availability may vary by campus).

- Research and Sciences
- Arts and Humanities
- Commerce and Business
- Kinenetics and Health
How to Apply
Students must submit:
✅ A completed application form
✅ A school transcript or report card
✅ Short essay responses
✅ (2) letters of recommendation
