The 2025–2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now open. This means students can complete their application early to maximize their opportunity to receive federal financial aid for the fall 2025, spring 2026 and summer 2026 semesters.
It’s time to gather the materials needed to submit the 2025–2026 FAFSA. All students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA, regardless of income. Many scholarships require a completed FAFSA to be considered.
Here’s a checklist:
A studentaid.gov account (FSA ID).
Students will need to set up a studentaid.gov username and password, if they haven’t done so already. If a student has submitted a FAFSA before, they already have one. If anyone else, like a parent or spouse, needs to contribute information on the FAFSA, they will need their own FSA ID. Students and contributors can retrieve their studentaid.gov username and password if needed.
Be sure to approve consent for the transfer of your federal tax information.
Anyone contributing information to the FAFSA must consent to transfer their tax information, even if they did not file taxes for 2023. Providing approval makes you eligible for federal student aid.
Records of 2023 W-2s if you did not file taxes.
Record of assets.
Assets are savings and checking account balances, stocks, bonds and real estate values —except the house a student or contributor lives in.
Don’t forget to include ASU on the FAFSA.
ASU’s Federal School Code is 001081.
It takes most families less than 30 minutes to complete. Submit early to maximize your aid eligibility.
