University Academic Success Programs’ tutoring centers offer free support to enrolled ASU students in Math, Science, Business, Statistics, and Engineering. Students can visit the tutoring centers to work with a peer tutor, attend review sessions before major exams, and utilize prep sessions to refresh their knowledge on core concepts to prepare them for their upcoming coursework. Additionally, tutoring centers provide community space that is perfect for studying, collaborating, and building an academic network.
Working with a peer tutor is a great way to:
- Support your learning by reviewing key concepts from courses and asking questions
- Learn new study strategies such as effective note-taking and critical reading
- Connect with other ASU students who have taken your courses and build an academic network
- Formulate questions to take back to professors about course material
Our tutors are talented students who participate in research, student organizations, and service at ASU while maintaining academic excellence. UASP employs student leaders who can serve as strong role models for the students with whom they work. Tutors are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and an average GPA of 3.5 in their respective subject areas, get a faculty recommendation, and complete a training program certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.
Tutoring FAQs:
Q: How do I find a tutor?
A: Use our Tutor Search feature to search for a tutor for your course. Find a campus, time, and center that fits your schedule.
Q: Do I need an appointment?
A: No, all subject area tutoring is drop-in. All you need to do is bring your ASU Sun Card and check in at the front desk.
Q: What do I bring?
A: Bring your ASU Sun Card and other materials such as notes, textbooks, calculators, paper, and pencils.
Q: How does it work?
A: After you check in at the front desk, sit at a designated table for your course and submit your name to our Queueing system. A tutor will be with you as soon as possible.
Q: What coursework can you assist me with?
A: We can assist you with a variety of coursework. However, we cannot assist with take-home tests, quizzes, assessments, or assignments that are in direct violation of course policies about receiving assistance. Exceptions may be granted if the center supervisor receives written permission from the course's instructor for a course-related exam (permission from a TA is not adequate) or from a faculty advisor or official departmental representative for a degree-related exam. The center supervisor must receive this written permission via email from the appropriate individual before the tutoring session takes place.
